News | North American Artist Spotlight - November 2005 - Marty McFly [Toronto]
Marty McFly, old school favorite Funky Breaks DJ, has this contagious energy when behing the turtables that just cant be ignored. The DJ who puts Fun in Funky, hasnt played Montreal in over 2 years and will be performing on November 3rd at the Saphir Mix Thursdays.
[MTLDNB.COM] Hey Marty how are you doing? What's up?
[MARTY] I’ve been keeping well. I took a little rest from dJing there for a bit. That was about 2 years ago. I still was dJing during those times but only when I was sought out by promoters or fans of breakbeats.
Are you on some sort of tour right now? Where are you playing?
Not really, but I love how things can snowball sometimes. I was asked to spin at event in Fredericton called PLAY. Then Halifax inquired about having me dJ their Friday night breaks scene and now I’ll be dJing for the Broken Crew in Montréal on Thursday Nov 3. Sadly though, the night in Halifax had to be canceled so Ill be in town that night with no where to mix waiting to go up to Fredericton the next day.
How long since you've been to MTL? What are some of your memories of previous vists??
The last time I was in Montréal was back in 2003. I don’t remember the name of the show but I was dJing at this cool 500 person warehouse Jamme-jam. As fun as that was? My fondest memories were spent dJing at the BlueDawg on St-Laurent. I also have some great memories of dJing back to back with Capitol J. (n.i.c.e productions) at the old bingo hall on St. Catherines. Or does anyone else remember Binary Thursday? Always a good time for breaks in Montréal. I so happy that people enjoy the way I mix up the music and I believe people can feel that enthusiasm from me while out on the dance floors.
What do you have planned for us on thursday? what are you playing these days?
haha.. That’s always a surprise. But you can expect it to be upbeat and fun. As to what Im mixing these days? Same as always. I dig for tunes from my vast collect and mix it up with what fresh. Then at the party/bar, everyone who steps onto my Delorean dance floor ? Goes for a fun musical joyride with me. It’s a total Blast!
Are there any big plans in the future? when am i getting my first marty
vinyl?
More so now than ever before. I’'ve just starting to learn how to produce my own beats. It’s never too late to learn something new and while I’ve spent most of my dJ-life just dJing… It will be exciting to convert those years of experience into music production. As to when you’re getting your first vinyl from me?? I can’t say, but I can guarantee you when the first one is ready I’ll be posting the link via my webpage www.mcfly.ca On it you’ll only find some facts about me as well as some downloadable mixes and thats about it for now. I’m also still sponsored by CHILLS Canada ( www.chillsdjhitsquad.com ) I actually met the owner of Chills Canada at the very first Montréal Cannabis cup ( 1999 I think) way back when. We got to talking about music and dJing and that was enough to start a wonderful friendship where countless people across canada could win free chills products handed out through me at the various events. All I have to do is go visit the Chills factory where I personally select each item myself to be won by someone. If I could have one wish from them though it would be to create a line of papers called… MCFLY PAPERS. Maybe its just a dumb wish, but I think that would be cool as #%@&#!!!! haha.. See you on Nov3 in Montréal and Nov 5 Fredericton with a bag full of treats.
